Description

I was taking photos of a group (maybe 4 or 5) of storks some weeks ago but when I sneaked up to close, they flew away - I made the best of the situation and this shot came out quite good.

I know that this shot is not the quality I usually post but I love those animals and wanted to share that moment with you.

Nice Shot! It looks one of those images at getty's.
Btw, I like your camera. How many pixels?

Great photo. Good colours in the background, and I like how it is blurred too. The right wing is a little bit too blurred for my liking, but the focus on the rest of the bird is very good :)

You just knew I'd like this one Phryneas. I am well aware the challenges involved with birds in flight. Not only that, you had a bright white subject on a sunny morning. I think you did a great job with this considering all that worked against you. You get extra points because it's a bird and because it's a bird in flight! The stork is a little over-exposed and it almost looks as if he were over-sharpened in PS. I may be wrong, just my guess. The background is pretty with nice colors.

Good job!

This wasnt easy, If ps was involved remove the dark mark under the bill stretching backwards, and hode the buildings...

Top work !

Nice shot. The framing is perfect. I just don't like the buildings in the background, but what can you do, eh? Is there something hanging out of his mouth or is that just a weird shadow?

GFXartist sponsor MsMichelleLynn: yeah, I guess you're ruight, I did a little bit too much resizing-sharpening in that, I'll have a look at this later :)

GFXartist sponsor emarts: Hm, I think it's just a weird shadow. Also a thanks to  Almost-Human, who also mentioned it (I just didn't undertand it until I looked up some words in mi dictionary ^^).
By the way Brian - what did you mean by "hode"? Couldn't find that word in my dictionary :/

Thanks for the birding lesson. I live in Sandhill Crane country and we learn to tell crane from egrets and herons by the way they carry the neck when they fly. Cranes fly with necks straight, egrets and herons with a curve neck. I had to look at my birding book to find USA has only one wee portion of south Florida with a Stork population, and yes they also fly with necks straight.

Not a common bird in US of A - and all those babies he delivered-busy birdie:)

As to the photo, I have to give you credit for being prepared, if this is where they live and you were prepared you did your work. The bird looks a bit green around the edges - I'm assuming that is water staining?? that could have been cleaned up.

It's head looks a bit 'plastic' - is that because of the problems mentioned in earlier resizing/sharpening (I have sme learning curve).

I would have maybe cropped tighter so that buildings blended into a darker background. I still give you points for trying. You got close this time. Next time I think you will perhaps hit the target. Certainly sooner than I will.

Maybe if you made a panoramic view out of this you'd get more tention.

ARTOONATOR: In this case, I wanted the stork some space to "take off" to - but thanks for the great suggestion, I'll consider that in the next flying bird shot I'm going publish :)

Hi Lenz,

Beautiful capture here! This is beyond what I am capable of as a photographer. You definately made the best of the situation here! Good work!

This is a wonderful shot. I am not bothered about the blurred wing - it adds a sense of motion and speed to the crane. I think ARTOONATER is right, and a panoramic picture is much stronger. Try cropping the image so you lose the border between the houses and the sky, and keeping the full width.

This is a beautiful shot... I didn't notice the buildings until someone mentioned it, because I was busy looking at the bird... Anyway, great work.

You did a very good job in this capture! It's not easy capture birds in flight!
But you got a nice result! The colors of the background are good as well! :)
