I think you did quite well wiht the white balance, colours seem good to me. Say what RAW converter do you use? some have finer white balance tuning than others...

I can't really comment about darkness..as I calibrated my monitor etc.. so I have no idea what it looks like on yours...but in photoshop CS..I find the shadows/hihglights adjustment tool amazing..basically tones down crazy highlights and opens up shadows quite a bit...

as well..many people are saying that the D70 slightly underexposes..something to do with the curves and saving hihglights from blowing out... lots of custom curves one can download..I have set my exposure compensation to +0.3 as default, and it seems to be working out pretty good,,,and to keep hihglights from blowing out because of that, I shoot ont he lowest contrast setting...sure it looks like hell most of the time..but works well in post production..

Very nice Lenz. I enjoy black backgrounds in flower photography. I think this might work better if the flower was cropped lower and more to the right. Also, there's a tiny white speck showing in my monitor in the middle left of the photo which is a part of the background flower but is a little distracting.

Nevertheless, very well done. Good work!

Very nice shot Lenz. The black background suits this well. I think lightning the flowers just a bit might improve the shot even more. I agree with exitium, the shadows/highlight tool in PS might do the trick. I respect your choices though, you know what was intended here
